Allentown School District Students Get Uniforms (IT WILL SOLVE EVERYTHING)

The theory behind school uniforms is that they decrease distractions amongst students, thus, allowing them to focus on their studies.

Since I’ve never had to wear a school uniform, I can’t really attest to whether or not this theory works, but I’m sure someone looked into it. Besides, making these kids dress nice will make people think they are more respectable and that’s all that really matters, right? Perception?

In any event, I’m indifferent about the whole thing. You?

The Allentown School District could be on the road to implementing school uniforms by next school year, possibly across all grade levels.

A school board committee voted 8-1 Thursday to accept a recommendation that uniforms be implemented in Allentown starting in September.

School uniforms in Allentown have been discussed for nearly a decade, but talks have grown more serious in recent years as support for the idea grew stronger among both parents and students.

“The community has spoken, and the time is now to move forward on this,” said board President Robert Smith Jr. ”It’ll help the students, it’ll help the test scores and it’ll help the safety of our schools.” SOURCE: The Express-Times

I guess it can’t really HURT any, but I guess I would caution against saying that it’s some sort of panacea.

Cmon though, just because you have to wear uniforms doesn’t mean that these kids aren’t going to find ways to modify their uniforms, which is going to bring in even more distraction because other kids will then want to modify their uniforms somehow and teachers will constantly have to be looking out for kids who are modifying their uniforms, thus creating distractions in school.

Phew. Circle of fashion.

They should make the uniforms be something awesome, though. Like, every kid has to wear some sort of suede something at all times.
