Bangor Man Fakes Depositing Money into ATM, Withdraws Real Money
I heard someone call it a “MAC” machine the other day. Are they still called that?
I remember my first MAC card and was so pumped to be able to use it to take out money for a sandwich or a new Meat Puppets CD or whatever you’d buy when you were 17 and had a $300 balance from working as a lifeguard.
Had I known that this type of scam was possible, I wonder if I’d ever had tried it out…
A Bangor man faces theft by deception charges after he faked depositing money in his bank and then later withdrew it, police said.
Kenneth Compton, 49, of the 600 block of Million Dollar Highway, placed an empty envelope in an ATM at Merchants Bank at 303 Penn Ave., according to Bangor police. He did this twice, police said. He then withdrew the money Sept. 10, police said. It was not clear how much money he was able to withdraw from the bank.

I guess they would figure this out pretty quickly, though, since bank employees would be opening empty envelopes…
I think it’d be more fun if you put things in them, like nice little drawings or a signed picture of Kathy Craine. At least bring SOME joy to the world.
