Allentown to Host “Barkfest”, Local Dogs Approve

Allentown doesn’t have a dog park? It’s the CITY of parks and not one for dogs?

If that seems ridiculous to you, too, then have no fear because Barkfest is here!

Underdog reference. Beat that.

There was a point in time where I thought the use of “fest” after every Lehigh Valley event that popped up was a bit cliche and trite. Now, however, I think it’s more of a signature and fun. So, Barkfest it is. Meowfest to come!

Allentown dog owners are invited to attend BarkFest 2012, a fundraising event to help support establishing the city’s first dog park.

BarkFest will be held noon to 8 p.m. Sept. 8 at Cedar Beach Park. More than 60 local vendors will be participating.

The event will also include food and beverage, live bands, a dog agility course, an Allentown police K-9 demonstration, a dog race, obedience classes, animal CPR training and more, according to the city.

Animal CPR training? I mean, I love dogs and all, but… they totally lick their own butts.

A dog park has long been discussed as a possibility for Trout Creek Park East. BarkFest has been organized by the nonprofit organization Friends of the Allentown Parks.

For more information about the event, call 610-432-7275 or visit allentownparks.org and click on “Dog Park Updates.” SOURCE: The Express-Times

Bottom line? Great idea and implementation and the perfect spot for it. Honestly still surprised that there isn’t one in Allentown, but there’s no time like the present.

I’m still working on getting my first dog, a English Bull Terrier that will be named “Robocop”. As soon as this happens, I will post one million photos on Instagram.
