Bicyclist Hit By Hummer, Stays Upright, IDs Vehicle

This past spring, bicyclists were getting hit by cars all over the place. It was bad enough that Bethlehem vowed to modify the end of the Fahy Bridge to make biking across it safer.

I’ve fallen off a mountain bike after trying to do a gnarly jump off a pile of dirt that, unbeknownst to me, had the consistency of pudding. That didn’t end well.

And it hurt.

So, being hit by a Hummer woul… wait, who the hell drives Hummers anymore? People do that? Are they Hybrid Hummers?

A bicyclist able to keep his balance after being struck by a Hummer H2 was able to gather enough information about the vehicle for police to charge the hit-and-run driver, Lower Saucon Township police report this morning in a news release.

Gary Monacelli, of the 400 block of Gaffney Road in Williams Township, was riding about 8:10 p.m. Aug. 14 on Applebutter Road when his bicycle was struck from the rear by a Hummer driven by Brenda Lynn Anema, of the 4100 block of Countryside Lane in Lower Saucon, police report.

Anema did not stop to help Monacelli with minor injuries, police said. He provided police with the color, make and model of the SUV and authorities soon saw the Hummer at Applebutter and Countryside, police said.

After the stop, Monacelli identified the vehicle and Anema was charged with failing to render aid after an accident, reckless driving and failing to notify police of an accident, according to the news release. She will be notified of the charges by summons, police said. SOURCE: The Express-Times

Looks like this isn’t the first time this woman has had a brush with the law. That is, if you count shooting a gun near your ex-lover a brush with the law.

If she was driving a Hyundai Accent or something, I can see thinking you might get away since those cars are everywhere, however, Hummers are a bit… hmm… conspicuous.

And, seriously, if you hit a bicyclist, whether it’s your fault or not, you stop and help because 1. it’s the right thing to do and 2. you hit them. What if this lady had some pretty serious injuries and ended up dying, but could have been saved had you stopped and called 911 to get an ambulance there in time?

Oh, wait, you drive a Hummer,  you don’t care about shit.

Super quick story: There was a guy in college who had a Hummer and would park it on campus and acted like a douche all the time. This was when the H2s first came out. One night, apparently, someone had enough of his doucheness and put a bowling ball through his windshield. It happened.
