As pleasant and carefree as I like to think downtown Bethlehem, specifically the Main Street section, is, crime seems to be seeping into the city.
And it makes me mad.
Now, sure, I poke fun at Allentown and Easton, but, cmon, we all know that the entire Lehigh Valley is not immune to crime. Both Allentown and Easton have been making strides to curb violent crimes and seem to be doing a decent job at turning the tide.
However, this recent, brazen, daylight robbery is unsettling and hopefully not a sign of any more things to come.
Two gun-wielding men robbed aBethlehem jewelry store this afternoon, according to city police.
Authorities say two dark-skinned men came into Dancing Designs Jewelry, 512 Main St., about 12:25 p.m. armed with handguns. The robbers took an undetermined amount of jewelry then fled on foot, police said.
One suspect was described as in his 40s, wearing a white mesh shirt and white sneakers. He had short black hair and wore a New York Yankees ball cap that was blue with a white brim.
The second male suspect was described as younger than the first, with longer hair and wearing a purple-and turquoise-striped polo shirt. His hair was also dark and he wore a dark hat, blue jeans and possibly white sneakers.
Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Bethlehem police Detective Fabian Martinez at 610-997-7678 or the department at 610-865-7187. SOURCE: The Express-Times
A Morning Call report said that a employee inside the store was tied up during the robbery.
Also, this is the second violent type crime in what even I have referred to as the “Crown Jewel Section” of the Lehigh Valley in a short period of time.
This makes me sad and mad.
I wonder if criminals realize the fact that people don’t exactly feel as though this is a high crime area and that makes it more vulnerable?
Ugh. Yes, that is a picture of one of the robbers.
