Man Tells Mom He Robbed a Martins Creek Bank, She Turns Him In

If you have a stupid kid who commits a crime, like a REAL crime I’m not talking breaking some windows at the abandoned warehouse down the street, would you turn them in?

I’m sure any parent has to have those few minutes where they are like, “Ugh. My kid is an eff up and is now going to go to jail for however long, but if I don’t report this then I’m just letting them know it’s cool to rob banks. Oh, and I could probably also get arrested since I didn’t tell on them.”

Yeah, if my kid robbed a bank.. man.. I guess I’d post on Facebook about “Where did I go wrong? I raised Jimmy better than this!” But, then I’d turn him in after I promised not to say where he buried the money.

A 29-year-old Bangor-area man is in jail on bank robbery charges because his mom turned him into authorities after he confessed to doing “something bad,” according to state police inBelfast.

Jonathan S. Simons of 220 Hester Road, Washington Township, was arraigned Monday on 15 charges related to the March 23, 2011 robbery at Merchants Bank in the Martins Creek section of Lower Mount Bethel Township. During the robbery, he allegedly threatened three tellers with a hunting knife.

Simons’ mother, Penny Simons, contacted police in May after her son alluded to doing “something bad” and confessed under further questioning to robbing a bank. Penny Simons said she determined her son matched the description given in the March 23 Merchants Bank robbery and suggested investigators interview a woman her son was dating at the time of the robbery, Amy Buzzard. Yeah, see, this is a crime that’s just too big not to turn your kid in for.

Sorry, kid. Thems the breaks.

I’m sure the mom feels awful about doing this, but, in the long run, she did her son a favor.

Tough love!
