The Lehigh Valley. Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton and everything, and everyone, in-between. This little area of the country has been rapidly expanding both in population and industry in recent years. With expansion and an influx of people comes random acts of stupidity and deliberate acts of meanness.

I'm just here to keep track.

This is a Lehigh Valley Blog for the rest of us.

Choking Game May Have Killed Kid

When I was in middle school one of my friends was like, “Hey, let me show you this cool trick.” Before I knew it I was in a half nelson and was slowly passing out. The next thing I remember was waking up on the ground and being like, “What the fuck, that totally sucked shit.”

So, naturally, I did it to another one of my friends later on that day and he fell to the ground and started twitching. I was totally fucking freaked out and thought he was going to die and my whole 13 years of life flashed in front of my eyes. But, after a bit of frothing at the mouth, he woke back up and we got on the late bus to go home. First and last time I choked a person out.

This kid, however, didn’t wake up.

A 13-year-old boy who died yesterday afternoon may have been experimenting with the “choking game,” the Lehigh County coroner has ruled.

The boy, of
Phillipsburg, N.J., was pronounced dead at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, said Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim. The boy was found alone in his home just before 3 p.m. Sunday, Grim said, adding the boy may have been playing the choking game.

In the choking game, adolescents cut off the flow of blood to the brain in exchange for a few seconds of feeling light-headed. Some strangle themselves with a belt, a rope or their bare hands, according to the Web site for Games Adolescents Shouldn’t Play.

Once the adolescent releases the pressure, the blood that was blocked up floods the brain and sets off a warm and fuzzy feeling.

The boy’s cause of death was due to a brain injury and his death is ruled undetermined, Grim said.

Morale of the story? Don’t fucking choke out your friends. Go shoot paintballs at homeless people or something.

Also, my one friend routinely chokes out this girl he’s dating, but she asks for it, so, I mean, he wouldn’t be liable, right? I mean, you know, hypothetically if she like asked you to choke her out and then she was literally asleep snoring while you were still… I mean, that’s ok right? I’m just asking because my friend, you know, he might need to know that.
