Old Lady Crashes Car Into Dunkin’ Donuts in Bethlehem

When old people crash cars my emotions get entangled.

On one hand, I want to be furious that they are driving when they have lost the skills to do so.

But, on the other hand, I feel bad for them because it is probably their only means of self transportation.

Hopefully this old lady is OK, but won’t be driving again anytime soon.

Five people were taken to the hospital early this afternoon after a Subaru Forester crashed through the front door of the Dunkin’ Donuts at 1910 Stefko Boulevard in Bethlehem and came to rest next to the cash registers, authorities said.

Witnesses said an elderly woman who was a regular at the coffee shop was pulling into a parking spot when she accelerated, jumped the curb and plowed into the front door of the store. It wasn’t clear what prompted her to accelerate into the store.

Check out the crazy photos from this over at lehighvalleylive.com

(Jessica) Cruz and her co-workers Parry Patel and his sister Ekta Patel, both of Bethlehem, had only been working at the store for about two weeks. Ekta Patel was leaving the store at the end of her shift when the crash happened. Parry Patel said he was in the backroom fetching supplies when he heard the deafening commotion.

“I had no idea”what it was, he said.”It sounded like everything just fell. It sounded like the building was collapsing. I honestly thought it might be an earthquake, because everything shook.”

Cruz said she and Patel tended to customers, some of whom were bleeding and all of whom were very shaken up. No one appeared seriously injured, she said.

Commence debate about senior citizen drivers and whether or not they should be tested.

I think they should. I mean, just like a teenager should be tested before they get licensed, it’s only fair to bring in a senior citizen at a certain age to pass a test.

Sure, it’s totally ageism. This is true. It is. But, there is also a lot information that lends credence to the fact that seniors are super awful drivers.

Where is this information, you ask? Well, probably somewhere on the interwebs with a bit sprinkled over the floor of that Dunkin’ Donuts.

Hell, if you’re a senior citizen and you want to drive, we recommmend buying your insurance from Townsend Insurance Agency in Bethlehem (smile and wink). You’re gonna need it.
