East Penn Kids Left Busless, a Few Alternatives

So, this is a bit different. There is a bus strike in the East Penn School District, but it’s not the bus drivers against the district, it’s the drivers against the transportation company that provides service to the district.

So, East Penn officials are just like, “REALLY? REALLY? WTF?”

East Penn School District is shutting down all 10 of its schools today in response to a school bus drivers strike called against First Student, the company that provides the district’s transportation.

The strike affects 8,000 East Penn students and an additional 1,000 private schoolchildren who rely on the bus service.

Schools Superintendent Thomas L. Seidenberger sent an automated phone message to all East Penn parents about 9 p.m. Tuesday explaining that the Teamsters strike gave the district no choice but to cancel the day’s classes.

He said he will contact parents again today to inform them of plans for Thursday.

”We were just notified,” Seidenberger said late Tuesday. ”I expressed my concern to the union leader that I didn’t appreciate the late notice.”

First Student and the Teamsters, who have been in contract talks for a few weeks, are expected to return to the bargaining table today, he said. Source

This presents parents with a big problem, they can’t get their kids to school because they have shit to do, like work and farm and stuff.

This is why one room schoolhouses are so effective. That way, no one has to travel anywhere, you just have to be in class with like five other kids who live on your street.

I guess that would kind of suck if you were looking for a date to the annual one room school house winter formal and you were the fifth guy and there were only four girls.

This just seems stupid to me. Doesn’t it to you? You mean to tell me that ALL fucking summer long when they weren’t busing kids to school every morning they couldn’t get this shit sorted out? They had to wait until school started? Everyone’s a dickhead.

You could always just have all the neighborhood kids get one of those ropes that they have preschool kids hold onto when their walking downtown and have them walk to school or something. Designate whoever is unemployed to walk with them. That will teach them some real lessons in life…

When I used to walk to school it was like playing Pitfall, fucking snakes and alligators and open pits and gold bars and shit. Fucking bus strike my ass, we took swinging vines to school, pussies.
