Easton Hooker Keeps Drugs Police Gave Her Money to Buy During Sting

Being a police informant isn’t a good thing. It usually means you’re in some sort of other trouble and the cops are giving you a shot to redeem yourself by taking down someone who is probably doing more damage to the community than you are.

So, when a local Easton hooker was tapped (ha) to buy some drugs from a dealer per Easton Police instruction, all she had to do was give the drugs to the cops and she’d probably get off (ha) with a slap on the wrist.

But, NOoOOoooO, she had to go and do the drugs after she bought them, knowing full well the cops were watching her.

A prostitute who worked with city police in a heroin-buy sting earlier this month kept the drug after the operation, according to court records. 

Janet Smith, 54, of Fourth Street in Easton, is charged with theft by deception and tampering with evidence for the Feb. 11 crime, records say. Smith also is charged with prostitution for allegedly offering to perform oral sex on an undercover police officer earlier that day. 

She is being held in the Northampton County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail. 

An Easton police detective met with Smith, who was identified in court papers as a “known prostitute,” the afternoon of Feb. 11 in regard to Smith making a controlled heroin buy, according to records. The detective checked Smith and found she did not have any money or contraband, records said.

“She was voluntarily cooperating with law enforcement at the time,” said Easton police Inspector Matthew Gerould, adding Smith has had contact with city police in the past.

The detective provided Smith with $60 in prerecorded funds to buy heroin from a drug dealer identified only as Jay. Police followed Smith to an undisclosed location, where a man handed her something in exchange for the money and then walked away, records said.  

Alright, good job, Janet. Now just give the drugs to the cops and you’ll be on your way…

Smith had been instructed to meet police at a predetermined location to turn over the heroin, but instead went up the block to her room at Hotel Lafayette, according to court records. Police observed Smith the entire time she was walking to the hotel, Gerould said. 

Doh!

Officers entered the hotel, went to Smith’s room, and knocked on the door, identifying themselves as police, according to court records.

Janet: “Now, who could that possibly be?”

An unknown man opened the door, and officers saw Smith sitting on the bed inside with her left shirt sleeve rolled up to the elbow, according to court records. A hypodermic needle was sticking out of Smith’s left arm, records said. Smith quickly threw the needle under the bed and failed to produce for officers the purchased heroin, records said.

“They won’t find this needle under the bed,” said stupid idiot.

Complications during police operations like that involving Smith “don’t happen routinely,” said Gerould, pointing out she was found quickly after leaving the spot of the heroin buy. 

Smith also allegedly offered oral sex to an undercover police officer with Easton police’s Vice/Narcotics unit earlier on Feb. 11. Officers were conducting street-level operations that day in response to complaints by local residents and business owners, according to Gerould. 

Sigh.

The undercover officer stopped his car near Smith at South Third and Pine streets. Smith approached the car and agreed to perform oral sex on the officer for $20, records said. SOURCE: The Express-Times

OK, so obviously this lady has a problem and was just trying to get one more quick high before the cops came in and grabbed her. Or, maybe she thought she had some sort of hooker ninja skills that would allow her to evade the cops’ surveillance while she went and did some drugs. Then she’d just meet back up with them and be like, “What drugs?”

Yep. This happened.
