Bethlehem Hot Dog Man Gets Competition From Hot Dog Men

Things are looking up for Edwin Padilla, Southside Bethlehem’s Hot Dog Man. For one thing, there seems to be the feeling that he’ll be able to continue selling his hot dogs, there will just be some sort of provisions now for cart vendors in the area.

Some of the vendors on the south side have even given up wanting him to die. Which is always a good thing.

Homebase Skate Shop, for one, made it pretty clear they support Padilla, they just want to make sure that since there may be more carts in the future, that there be some definite regulations on them.

OH snap, well, fucking look at that, one of the motherfucking business that signed a petition to put Padilla out of business let some of their buddies open up their own fucking HOT DOG CART!!!!

Remember Terminator 2? When the fucking new Terminator, T-1000, shows up and he’s all like “look at me, I can fucking shapeshit and turn my hand into a pointy thing?” Yeah, well he got his whole body melted by the ORIGINAL Terminator….

A  second hot dog cart popped up this morning in south Bethlehem.

Two friends of the owner of Sotto Santi pizzeria and pub started selling hot dogs, hamburgers and kielbasa sandwiches from a parking spot in front of the restaurant.

The vendors — Brian Hamedo and
David Grant, both unemployed — said they used to have the business when they were students at the University of Pittsburgh from 2001 to 2006.

Edwin Padilla, a laid-off construction worker, started selling hot dogs earlier this month in south Bethlehem from his cart at New and Fourth streets, igniting a debate over where mobile vendors would be allowed to sell their wares.

About 35 business owners on South Side signed a petition objecting in Padilla’s cart, and city lawyers now are looking at ways to regulate the carts. Padilla sells from a metered parking spot, but will soon lose it.

Anthony Spagnolla, the owner of Sotto Santi, allowed Hamedo and Grant to set up in front of his restaurant, which city ordinance allows. Spagnolla said he thinks the carts are a good thing.

“Like P.T. Barnum, business brings business,” he said.

Padilla said he likes the competition from the new cart and he had a long line of customers at lunchtime.

Well Spagnolla is either a complete fucking toolbag or he’s just stupid. I’m not sure which one. I mean, he signed that petition too, so he didn’t want the fucking competition, but oh, as soon as it looks like people are taking Padilla’s side, oh it’s all fucking great, let’s just have carts all over the fucking place.

I think Homebase mentioned a Falafel cart.

There needs to be an ice cream cart.

A fucking Slim-Jim Cart

Spaghetti on a stick cart.

And, if at all possible, Aw Shucks should get in on this shit as soon as possible.

Whatever works. In fact, I do like the idea of these types of vendors, some people may not, but I think it brings a sort of charm and legitmacy to the area.

Padilla’s got his fucking hands on a goldmine if he works it right. That and the support of nearly the entire Lehigh Valley and the Morning Call is basically dry humping his cart to get as many stories on the Internet as possible.

Who the fuck cares about Revolution in Iran? We got ourselves a regular Frankfurter War in our own backyard kids.

Summer has officially arrived.
