Bob Dylan to Come to Valley, Pretend He Will Remember It
The one thing that always got me about famous people, particularly when you would see a big rock band or something in person, was how they would go out of their way to make you think as though they give a fuck that they are playing in “Bethlehem/Allentown” Pa, when they are really wondering why they aren’t playing somewhere in New York City or Los Angeles or Cabo Wabo.
There are probably a handful of artists who even know where the fuck Allentown is, so they sure as shit aren’t that excited to be here unless they are making tons of money.
Which, of course, they are.
So, when Coca-Cola Park reps (home of the Iron Pigs) announced that they were going to have a big announcement, it wasn’t THAT big of a surprise that it was for their already announced marquee summer concert and that it was sold out.
Faster than ANYONE ELSE’S CONCERT. So take THAT umm… Dayton!
Not only that, park officials announced today, but the July 14 concert that will bring folk-rock Bob Dylan, country legend Willie Nelson and everybody’s favorite roots rocker John Mellencamp to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs’ park is the fastest sellout in the history of Dylan’s summer tours of minor league baseball parks, which he first did in 2003.
Tickets went on sale May 1, meaning the 10,000 seats — with top prices of $67.50 — sold out in less than 50 days.
It’s also the first to sell out in this summer’s 21-park itinerary, which includes large markets such as Las Vegas; Dayton, Ohio; Norfolk, Va.; and Louisville, Ky., said IronPigs General Manager Kurt Landes.
“This is a landmark day for Coca-Cola Park and the IronPigs organization,” Landes said at a news conference. “Our loyal fans continually show that the only way to guarantee entrance to events at Coca-Cola Park is by purchasing tickets in advance. Their passion allows us to provide the Lehigh Valley and the surrounding region with a premier venue to showcase live entertainment.” Source
Ahh, the Lehigh Valley, constantly patting itself on the back for doing anything that larger areas do every day.
Why do we have such a fucking identity crisis when we’re so hell bent on our own identity? Riddle me that…
Eh. good for them? It would make sense that this concert would sell out faster than most. You’re in the middle of the NYC and Phila corridor, so, anyone who lives in those really small cities and wants to see Dylan and… (Willie Nelson and Mellencamp?) would come here… makes sense to me.
I do like that they are using the field for concerts and such, definitely something that needed to be done. So at least not everyone in this area is a doucherunner.
With that, the weekend awaits with its burgeoning teets for me to suckle.
Let us begin.
